Is there a way to set a default value to a REQUIRED field?

Is there a way to set a default value to a REQUIRED field? 

For example a "space".

I am using an outside company by the name Zapier. 

There is an automated procedure which includes Zillow and Zoho.

It creates a lead in Zoho when Zillow receives it on their end. 

The procedure fails if a potential lead has no value to populate to a required field.

If the required field on Zoho had a default value the procedure would succeed.
