Keeping mail on the server

I have been using Zoho Mail for some time now but it has always been with Thunderbird and POP3. Until today I never accessed the Zoho Webmail as generally I don't like webmail but it is great when you're travelling somewhere.

I was delighted to see that all my old mail on had been saved. I am now in the process of switching Thunderbird over to IMAP as I can see that there is some advantages.

My question is, using the Thunderbird and I delete a message will that message be deleted off the server? Basically I would like to just keep my mail archived. Can someone give me some simple pointers as to how to follow this. Or some reassurance that the messages will still remain there just like they've done now, but not be visible in Thunderbird after I've click delete.
