Keeping track of payments in CRM

I need a way to keep track of tuition payments of my students in CRM.
Students receive an invoice toward which they make payments (in installments). Unless I open up my (non-Zoho) bookkeeping software I have no clear overview of this.
There is a creator app called 'Schooling' which I could use, but I don't know how to adjust/edit this app to my needs and it doesn't seem to integrate with CRM. Otherwise it almost fits my needs (if it is stable?).
How can this be done?
