Lead Owner - How are the new imported leads distributed if there is no lead owner?

Lead Owner - How are the new imported leads distributed if there is no lead owner?

I want to overwrite/update the existing leads when I import my new list. I want to keep the same lead owner for those duplicates, but how do i distribute the rest of the new leads?
