Leads and Contacts - Email Chain

I've sent a few emails back and forth within the EMAIL section of the CRM to my CONTACTS/LEADS, yet they never seem to appear in the actual stream of that CONTACT/LEAD, only unless you use the Quick Actions. Why is that, and why doesn't it pull from my emails that I've been in touch with them, or vice versa? I just get the [No Records Found] box
