Link back to potential in an email alert template

My gut says I can write a custom function to auto populate the direct link back to a potential in the body of Email Alerts I send to my users when a deal is WON. Has anyone done this?  Simply, I want to send automated email to internal users when a salesperson closes a sale.  In the body of the email I would like there to be a link to click for user to be taken straight into CRM record for that specific deal.  Potentials appear to use the PotentialID hash and if there's a way to create a custom function that auto builds the unique url it would be awesome.
