Linux Connect and Connect_x86 app segmentation fault on Ubuntu 17.10 64bit - intermittent

I'm trying to connect to an Ubuntu 17.10 computer.

I've downloaded both the Connect and Connect_x86 apps.

Both download the programme, create a window with two greyed out buttons and a greyed out Connecting at the bottom.

Starting from the command line gives:

Checking for updates ...
Starting Application ...
fatal error: unexpected signal during runtime execution
[signal SIGSEGV: segmentation violation code=0x1 addr=0x63 pc=0xc5b0ac96]

And a whole bunch more...

I just retried and got it to work so it's unclear what the problem is or how often it happens. So no real question other than seeking feedback from others about getting this to work.
