Login Name (ZOHO ID)/Password: What were you thinking?
Hi,
last week, I created a ZOHO CRM account, only to find me locked out a few days later.
After typing in the CORRECT email address (I'll get to that later) and the CORRECT password, I got the message "Invalid ZOHO ID / password". I know 100% sure that login and password were correct. Great.
So I had a new password sent to me and when I tried to change this mnemonic wonder of "IdPzHWAl" back to the password I had set up before, I got the completely inaccurate error message "Old Password is incorrect." You can believe me, I am able to copy'n'paste. No way that password was incorrect. But the site insisted on it two more times.
Just for fun, I tried to create a new account, using a different email address and the very same password I had used when I opened the first account, and to my surprise, I got a message that THE PASSWORD MAY NOT EXCEED 10 CHARACTERS! (This isn't announced before you try to register that password, you're only informed of the minimum of 6 chars.)
Funny that this limitation had NOT been there the week before. Looks like someone changed this over the last few days.
Of course, the password I had set up the week before had more than 10 characters (11, precisely). Looks like this change broke my ability to log in.
See, I really like to use passwords that exceed 10 characters. I'm one of the few people on this planet who really use strong passwords. Therefore I use passwords that consist of an uncommon, but easy to remember (for me) word, followed by some (again: easy for me to remember) numbers. Thank you for breaking that.
I don't know what made you impose these changes and limit passwords to 10 chars. But please do away with this limitation!
And while I'm at it: The idea to use email addresses as login names is not uncommon, but completely stupid.
Not only can I hardly remember when I log into some web app which of my more than a dozen addresses I used to register for that service, but it's also a pain to have to type something like "myfirstname.mylastname@yahoo.co.uk" instead of a self-chosen user name like "justme". Not to mention that I might want to change my registered email address at some point.
Yes, browsers can save login names and passwords. But what exactly was the point of web apps? Right, being able to use every computer that has an online connection. Do you think I want to save my login and passwords on all those computers? Not to mention that I have to enter them at least once on every machine.
What's even worse, the registration page refuses to accept a lot of email addresses.
I like to route several types of messages through my Gmail account and forward it to different places. The filter in Gmail uses "plus addressing". But your software doesn't accept addresses like "myaddress+fromzohocrm@gmail.com".
Another place I like to have status messages from apps like this one sent to (I usually use Gmail forwarding for that, but I already said what happens to that) is a page in my Backpack account. Backpack uses cryptic email addresses like "dummy99rhondella@myaccount.backpackit.com". Of course, your software won't accept these addresses, although they're perfectly valid. Argh.
I know that some people like to use their email address as login, but couldn't you make that optional? And could you please make your system accept every valid email address, not just the most common ones?
Oh, and BTW: Why doesn't my "Single Sign On" for all other Zoho web apps work in Zoho CRM?
