Lookup list not sorted

I'm using a lookup field to a table with 355 records. Even though Show choices in alphabetical order is checked the items are not listed in order. Approximately the first 200 show correctly the rest are random. I did add another display field under Advanced display options but then took it out.

Is this a known bug?
