Mandatory fields (not mandatory but a reminder if empty)

I was just curious if there was a way to have a pop up reminder if a field is empty?  (any time an account record is saved for instance)

I don't want it to be mandatory because the field needs to be filled out later in the process, not when the record is first created in the database.   So it would need to just be a 'reminder' of sorts so that it gets filled in.
