Map Fields

Now I am really confused.

I wrote in another post that I need info from the accounts tab to be the criteria for the contacts tab in doing views and reports to email. (Emailing Contacts based upon Account criteria) There apparently is no real solution to that issue.

SO I DECIDED TO TRY A NEW APPROACH -

I created matching fields in leads/contacts/accounts and "MAPPED" them. I was under the impression that when you changed one all the others would follow. I tested this to be UNTRUE.

I need all fields that are mapped together to change when anyone is changed. Did I miss the whole point of field mapping or can anyone set me straight on this topic.
