Mass Email "Send Mail" does not update "Last Activity Time"?

Mass Email "Send Mail" does not update "Last Activity Time"?

The problem I am having right now is that I want to email a number of contacts through the mass email ("Send Mail") button on a specific view.  Typically, I sort a specific view by "Last Activity Time" so I know who to send an email to.

With that in mind, when I choose 2 or more contacts and press the "Send Mail" button, select template, everything seems to work.  My contact gets an email and all is well. 

Having said that, the problem I am having, the "Last Activity Time" is not updated. 

My workarounds right now:
  1. Going into a single contact and hitting the "Send Mail" button, select template, and press "Send".  The "Last Activity Time" is updated in my list view.
  2. Choose 1 or more records in view (like above) and then create a Macro to update "Last Activity Time" to now.
I don't mind my workaround, but is just wondering if this a bug?!?!
