Mass update of multiselect field/ setting up activities

I am trying to set up a workable approach in Zoho CRM to run - among other things - mailing campaigns.

In CRM systems I usually set up initial lists by manually selecting contacts to create a list. This means I can export data through reports to generate merge letters etc, and also have a record of what has been sent to whom.

The way I have tried up set this up in Zoho CRM is to create a multiselect custom field in Contacts for mailers, adding to this as I do more mailers.

However the problem is that if I manually select contacts and try to Mass Update to record this is that it appears that Multiselect fields are not available for Mass Update.

An alternative would be to use a new custom field for every list, however I'd soon run out of custom fields.

Given that Mass Update doesn't work on Multiselect, I don't see an effective way of manually selecting contacts into large groups and keeping a record of this.

A related issue is updating on other issues. For example I want to show who attended particular events we have run. If I set up a Multiselect field this is a good way to do it, except that there is no easy way to select this in the system when people have attended.

Any suggestions very welcome.
