Minimum username lenght

Minimum username lenght

Hi, the minimum username lenght for zoho accounts is currently 6 characters. About that, please excuse me as I couldn't find better words for this, but: are you serious?

please make the minimun lenght 3 characters... in my personal case, 5 characters will be enough but I don't see the point in having such restriction of 6 characters minimum. If you have some anti-spam explanation for this, please be detailed as I don't think spambots will be less likely to send junk to "robert" (6 chars) than to "tom" (3 characters).

I agree with the following words I found in a blog:

"Help me out here—I want to believe that when Zoho tells me that I need to use 6 characters, it’s for some reason other than “the developer who wrote that validation code picked 6 arbitrarily”. But I can’t for the life of me imagine what the other, better reason might be.

for those of you out there who do web development today or in the future, please keep in mind that there are some of us with well-established usernames that are only 5 characters (or 4 or 3 or shorter, for that matter) that would love to not be subjected to capricious and silly rules when using your site. If there are technical reasons for arbitrary-seeming restrictions, then fine, but in most cases there shouldn’t be."

"zoho" itself is 4 characters only.. what if you had the same restriction when you went to register the domain name? what would you think about a message like: "zoho" is too short, would you like to register "zoho99" or "zohoxx" instead?

Also, I have seen that this restriction has actually caused some troubles.

(the previous link don't work for some reason, so please find the topic titled "bug report: wiki invitations don't work on user domain emails with email ID < than 6 characters")

I have discovered your services yesterday and it seems good so far, but the current minimum username lenght restriction for me is ... well, a deal-braker.

Thank you.
