If I have more than one unique field on a module (be it Leads or even a custom module), would each field be unique individually, or would all fields be unique together?

i.e. if I had Email and Phone as unique, would the system typically allow for multiple users with the same email as long as they have different phone numbers and vice versa, or would it fail even if the second attempt of creating the same email but with a different phone number fail?
