navigating through lists

Currently, I find there is no way to return to a custom view after I have selected a record from a list to edit or view in detail without hitting the back button on the browser.

This is very tedious, especially if I edit the record. There needs to be a "Return to View" button that brings me right back to where I started before opening the record.
