New Activity not linked to Contact that initiated it

When I create a SECOND Task, it does not get linked to the original contact. (It is then a "contact-less" task.

1. I go to a Contact
2. I click "New Task"
3. I enter the details, then click "Save & New"
4. I enter the details of the SECOND Task.
5. I click "Save".

The FIRST Task (Steps 2,3) IS linked to the Contact in Step 1.

However, the SECOND Task (step 4), is NOT linked to the Contact in Step 1.

I'm sure this is a bug, as I can't imagine this functionality by design.
