New Email Account Sending Code Verification

I successfully sent up my gmail account and applied for confirmation code so I could send gmail. Nine digit code received with 4 step installation instructions.

Unfortunately instructions don't work for me.

After hitting "Settings" at top of email page, there is no "Common Settings" choice under preferences.

I did find "Mail Settings" under preferences, which after hitting, I saw a "Common Settings" tab, but no account detail button, no place to enter code, and no "Verify" button. So I am stuck.

I could use some assistance. Thanks
