NEWBIE HELP with Contacts

Hi, I am considering using ZOHO and wondering if you can put me on the right track. I have a medical consultancy business and assist about 300 doctors. I want to enter all their details into the system and add some documents etc and also an expiry date when I need to contact them next. Are they CONTACTS? I am getting mixed up with what is a contact vs a lead etc.
