old topic and still no answer? pop3 account as imap in thunderbird

I recently received the following answer re: being unable to configure as imap in thunderbird a pop3 account created in Zoho:

: Zoho Mail will allow you to configure only your Zoho mail account and not the POP3 accounts configured in Zoho Mail.

which brings up the following questions:
is there a workaround to this?
is there any trick solution that doesn't involve having to keep mail on both account, the pop3-enabled and the zoho accounts (like by mail forwarding, for instance, which would be self-defeating)?
is it possible to configure a pop3 account as imap if one upgrades her zoho mail to a paid account?

if the answer to all this questions is "no", what's the reason, exactly?
