On Contact Page Potential field is empty

On Contact Page Potential field is empty

I have a problem as captured below  at the moment in that If i open a contact , potentials attached to it do not appear. I know there is a potential for this contact as i created it and can see if I search for this contacts name in the potentials result. Notice also that I dont have the possibility to " create a potential ". I have seen and struggled with this type of problem from time to time . Sometimes activities are " blank " and i dont have the option to create a new task either.  I cant see anything in setup that may effect this .. does anybody have any ideas.
