A pivot table can help you summarize rows and rows of data in a single table. This means you are readily provided with the insights that you need from your data. Zoho Sheet has now made this process a little more easy with the new pivot table enhancements like auto-refresh, auto-expand and has made it possible to experiment a little as you create your pivot tables.
Here's a classic issue with the traditional pivot tables. You'll have to keep refreshing the pivot table every time you have to add a new row to the source data, or edit the data in an existing row. Pivot tables in Zoho Sheet now come equipped with auto-refresh and auto-expand capabilities, meaning any change to the data will immediately reflect on the pivot table. Zoho Sheet had already made the auto-expansion of sources possible for charts, and now the pivot table source ranges will auto-expand, adding new rows at the end as well! You can however, disable these features right from the pivot builder side pane.
For any given data set, there can easily be more than one way of creating a pivot table. Each of these pivot tables can get you different insights from the data set. For instance, in a data set with details about items sold, sales regions and the sales reps that sold them, having each of these series in the rows or in the columns of a pivot table could give you different insights about the data.
Previously, you had to generate pivot tables, one after another, to find which one suits you better, and what must be the structure of that table. But with Zoho Sheet's new and improved pivot tables, you can drag and drop the data series into the pivot builder, and view the pivot table change as and when you shuffle the series around!
