I've noticed that, if you enter a record directly into the table grid, the current view's 'filter' is applied as soon as you move from the first field. Since virtually the whole record (except the initial field and defaulted fields) is empty at the outset, your record will likely disappear, since the empty values will cause it to be filtered out. It would be nice if the filtering didn't happen until the record was explicitly committed. In the meantime, the workaround is to use the expanded view for creating new records.
