Picklist Field in a Formula Field

Picklist Field in a Formula Field

I am trying to use a picklist field inside a formula field and am getting a syntax error.

Is this possible?

The picklist has the numbers 1-5 as pickable options.  Do I need to do some type of converstion to get this number and use it in a formula?
