I want to create a custom field for testing purposes only. 

After I test what I am trying to do -- remove picklist values, leaving the existing records intact , and testing in Reports to see that the old reports remain intact and only future reports would have the new values. (summarized in this earlier ticket). 

Anyway, I have had disastrous results in the past when deleting a field, and then the system deleted a bunch of queries and reports. I don't want to run that risk again.

So, rather than delete this test field, I would simply like to remove it from the layout.

I don't seem to be able to drag it off of the layout and onto the side bar. Am I missing something?
