Potentials to Account conversion

Potentials to Account conversion

Hello,
Maybe I have been using this CRM wrong...
I have been using Potentials as deals that were very possible, did not create a lead for it.
Now I want to convert a Potential to an Account, but don't see a way how to do it.

I have read that a lead can be converted to an account and can include a potential.
Do I have to convert my potentials to leads in order to create accounts?

The background of my question is that I do not like the feature of creating an account when creating a lead: An account in my understanding is an existing customer.


How to proceed?
