Problem entering new contact and getting company info SOLVED

I am working on a Zoho CRM structure for conversion of our company from Act, so I am new. Hopefully this is something simple that I am doing wrong, but it seems strange and this sort of thing would be a deal-killer for me because I don't want to have to enter all of the company information all over again for each new contact I create.

I need to create a new contact that is in a company that is already created. I presume the steps would be:

- New Contact button
- enter First Name, enter Last Name
- Click the little cube next to Account Name to pop up a search window
- Select a company from the list, OR seach for a company and select from that list

I would presume that then it would fill in the Account Name as well as address and other company information. But, what it does as soon as I click on a company name is to return me to the new Contact editing page with all of the fields blank, including the first and last name I just put in.

That just can't be right, can it? What am I doing wrong?
