problems with remote access

Hi,

I'm having some issues allowing a friend access to VO. I installed the program and have no problems accessing it on the other computers that are directly networked together, but my friend can't gain access from his computer. I've tried to find and follow all of the advice here, but nothing has worked so far. I'll give you as much as I can and hope someone can tell me what I'm dong wrong :)

1. Windows XP Pro
2. Comcast is the ISP
3. With Comcast, have a "networking plan" and uses a Netgear Wireless Cable Modem Gateway, although the computer VO is on is not wireless
4. I've opened port 8080 using the modem program at 192.168.0.1 (although I wasnt sure what to name it so I left that blank)
5. My thinking is that everything is set up correctly and my friend should be able to put in my external IP address with :8080 added on the end, and it should take him straight to the VO sign in page....what it does however is bring up a "Comcast Home Networking" sign in window.
6. I tried using dyndns.org, but he got the same results.....

Not sure what else to do......there is one thing that may the root of my problem:

1. The computer I loaded VO on actually goes through another computer to get to the internet. When that other computer is down, I have no internet connection on the one with VO. Could that be the reason he's getting blocked out?

Any help you can give would be appreciated.

p.s. I called Comcast, but they were absolutely no help.
