I have a Lead Status parent field with an associated Status Detail child field. Our sales people often edit these field with with the quick edit, meaning they aren't selecting the edit in the upper right hand and rather just selecting the edit icon next to the field.

When I have the child field associated they can no longer edit the parent field with the quick edit. Instead they have to go all the way into the full edit. Is there a reason for this? Is there a way to change it?
