Quotes question

Hello, I have just started understanding CRM and I find your tool just great!

I have been creating quotes both from the quotes module and from the potentials option

If I create one in potentials, it will not show at the quotes listing and vice versa.... is there any substantial difference in a quote created for a potential and another created for the module itself?
