Recommendation: allow some simple layout control in live Form views

I'm sure most of us have at one time or another wished we weren't constrained entirely to only one way to have our forms laid out.  Currently, like it or not, we must all live with two vertical columns for fields that stack vertically into those columns -- one way.  Well, it could be worse, but it sure would be nice to be able to have greater control of that layout with more variety of options.

One simple option that would make a world of difference in some forms would be to control the width of individual field blocks, i.e. the field and its label.  Currently the width spacing is uncontrolled and will open or close to fit whatever space is available in the browser window.

In this example below, because the browser window is open fairly wide, the field labels and their fields separate widely, making it sometimes difficult, or at least visually disorienting to line up the label and the field options.

It would be preferable to be able to keep the labels close to the fields.  That makes sense and is visually more useful.

A more diverse set of layout options would be great, even going as far as allowing a free-form layout canvas to place fields and their labels in any arrangement one might want.  Seen below is another online database tool that allows that kind of free layout.  The results can often be quite appealing and allows each database form to have a custom design.
