Recording Calls

When I am in a Lead there is a menu item on the right that says "Add a new call" but it's not there when I'm in the task. When I add a task that says, "Call customer X" I want to be able to record that call when I make it so I can run a report on it. The "Add a new call" option is not there in the task - I have to click back to the customer. Is there a way around this?
