Remove one label without clearing all labels for multiple messages?

Hi,

How do I remove a label without clearing all labels for multiple messages?

Let's say I have a group of messages that I want to mark with a label called "event responses". I can't use folders because the emails are already sorted into folders based on who the response is from (work friend, home friend, etc).

As the emails come in, I can label them with no problem.  And if 5 emails come in and I want to label them all at once, easy enough.  I just select them by checking the check boxes, and then apply the label "event responses" to all of the emails.

But now, let's say the event is over.  And we will be planning another event in a few weeks, so I no longer want these emails marked with the "event responses" label.  How can I easily remove the label from all of the messages?

It would seem I should be able to do it the same way the label was applied.  I could click on the label to filter for all messages with the designated label.  And then I should be able to select multiple messages and use the menu to remove the label "event responses" from the selected messages.  However, I can't find how to do this.

The only thing I can find is to remove the labels one by one, which will take forever and would end up in me not being able to use the label feature at all.

The other options seem to be using the "clear label" option from the drop-down menu, which clears ALL labels.  So, if I also had the emails marked with other labels that I wanted to remain with the messages, I would lose all of the labels.

Or, deleting the label, which would remove it from all emails rather than just selected messages.  This does not work because in many instances, I don't want to remove a label from all messages.  And, using this option, every time you want to remove a label from a group of messages, you have to delete and re-add the label, which will also mess up filters.

Please change the clear label option so that you can clear a specific label from selected emails as soon as possible.  Thanks!
