Reporting on Sales Activity - Notes vs Call Logs

Is there any way to run a single report that captures notes & call logs from all clients and leads? This would be ideal.

I find with my staff that using the "call logs" functionality is a little too complicated and the UI is strained. It is much easier to use notes for logging calls and visits to leads and contacts. I always found the wall between the distinction a little too constraining too - in our business leads and contacts are usually very interchangable and we are spending time with some subset of both groups. Ideally there would be a simple way to document interactions with both sets and report on them when desired.

The call logs, in a web browser, opens as a tiny tooltip like popup with a very small area to enter notes in the description. The notes dynamically opens a large dialogue to add text. Similarly on the mobile app, the UI is much simpler for notes. Most of the time our staff is entering notes on conversations they had prior in the day or week. Generally I am more concerned about the details and the timestamp telling me approximately when the details were entered (because that's usually close to when the interaction took place) then the exact date and time of the interaction.

Any comments or thoughts or things I am missing to make the experience better for us?
