Searches not returning correct results 90% of the time

Searches not returning correct results 90% of the time

I am searching for Accounts by the Account Name and 90% of my searches has pulled either no data whatsoever or a list of similar accounts but not the one I am searching for.

Real Example: I do a search for "City of Desoto" (i know its there because I am looking at it in the account list) and I get no results so I modify my search to just "Desoto" and I get "DESOTO ATHLETIC CLUB", I then modify my search again and just search for "City of" and my results are "CITY OF ALBANY" and "CITY OF JACKSONVILLE BEAC". Out of 3 searches using every word in the account name (including exact name) in various ways did not give me the correct results. I have experimented with other account names and the results are the same as above about 90% of the time.
