Self Replicating Products
I have complained before about products automatically replicating themselves and attaching themselves to orders. I have never had an adequate answer to any of these complaints. It becomes a king size pain in the butt to fix this problem because you can not simply delete a product that is attached to an order. In order to do this you have to rename each duplicated product code then run reports to find out which order they are attached to, then you have to run a sales order number report to bring that sales order up to edit it. Then you have to delete the duplicate and replace the line with the correct product. This process is exhaustive. I never really was able to actually witness an automatic product replication until today when I was removing some duplicated products using the above procedure. Although I still do not understand how this happens here is what I noticed when they were created.
As I was opening old orders to un-attach the duplicate products so I could delete them later. I noticed that more replicates were formed on a couple of the orders I was editing. The edit process I used was to locate the duplicate that I had renamed (I renamed the product code by adding a 1, 2 or 3 to the end to differeniate each duplicate) then was to find the line, delete it and add the correct product in a new line. When I was re-entering the new product code in the new line I noticed that fresh replicates had formed with the description line but with no product code. These were showing up in the data base.
I can't beleive no one else has had this problem as I have maybe 15 products in my current data base that are replicates and I will need to get rid of them.
More seem to form at random. Can you help me find out how this is happening and how I can stop it.
Thanks
James Taylor
