Sending reminders to contacts for Tasks

Hi there - I have situations where-in I would like to invite my customers to Tasks, and also send reminders for unfinished Tasks. However, I find that I can only include 'Users' within the CRM system to tasks. Is there anyway I can send emails to my Customers about these tasks?
