We have quite a few leads that come in to our sales reps. So, John Smith gets just the right amount of leads per day. Say he gets 50 of them, and he reached out to 40 of them. Out of the 40, he got hold of 15 prospects. 

What about the next 35? How does John Smith keep track of getting in touch with these 35 the next day when he has another new 50 leads to handle? Eventually, he might forget about these leads that he got hold of only once (and zero times for the other 35 leads).
