I am looking for native addition to ZohoCRM that will allow for individual or campaign style SMS messages. 

My goal would be able to have it as robust as email...autoresponder, scheduling, merge fields, bulk messaging, history, 2 way communication etc. 

Is this on the roadmap...there have been numerous posts going back years with a similar request? Is there any known 3rd party "clean"add-on? Is there a developer out there that could build in this functionality?

The statistics (4.2 billion+ texters worldwide) are overwhelmingly supporting SMS as a solid marketing and communication platform. 

Zoho are you there???? Spend some money on the platform and I am sure you will get community support at a few extra dollars per month per user.
