Spamming Issues
Spamming Issues
I really tried to make Zoho mail work for me, but it's just a no go.
I realize I can't expect much from a free service, and while I do enjoy such benefits as 2-factor authentication, very fast webmail, IMAP support, Contact and Calendar Support, the Android App and most of the other features, I just can't make the Spam Filtering work for me.
This post is simply to give you guys something to work on because I think you have a very good service, and you can't beat free, but I can't handle the poor Spam Filtering and will be moving my email hosting to another provider in the next day or two.
Here are my concerns:
1. Whitelisting doesn't work consistently. I am constantly seeing the same email addresses that I flag as Not Spam appear in the Spam folder. There has been some discussion on these forums about SPF records, but these emails are from very large organizations like Amazon.com, Godaddy, Rackspace and a bunch of others who I KNOW have valid SPF records. No matter how many times I flag their messages as Not Spam, I still get a fair amount of them in my Spam Folder. It's not every email from these providers, but at least half go to my Spam Folder and flagging them as Not Spam doesn't seem to work.
2. I normally get a ton of Spam, and about half appears in my regular inbox no matter what I mark as Spam. The system doesn't seem to be learning as I know most Spam Filters are designed to work.
Basically, a Spam Filter should learn what the user deems as Spam and Not Spam and work towards that end. If the user whitelists an email address, the filter should ALWAYS deliver any future messages to the Inbox regardless of what the SPF records, or the content of the email is. I do realize address spoofing is a problem, but the filter should be smart enough to know that if I whitelist an email address, and it comes from the same server every time, it should not keep getting flagged by the filter. Especially if the emails are from large companies such as Amazon or Godaddy who I am sure have proper SPF records in place.
On the flip side, the system should learn what I consider Spam and block those accordingly. Most Bayesian filters are learning filters and will gradually build a database based on the user's preferences but your filters don't seem to be learning anything about what I consider Spam as I get the same (or very similar) emails in my Inbox all the time. And what makes it even worse is that some of these messages do get filtered out. So, I'll get 10 emails that all look the same to me, but are all Spam. The filter will flag half of them, and deliver the other half to my Inbox even though they are very similar to the others. I can't for the life of me figure out the criteria used by your filter to flag messages as Spam or Not Spam and my flagging each individual email either way doesn't seem to work.
Basically, except for the horrible Spam filtering, your service is great. I'm just tired of constantly marking messages as Spam or Not Spam without your system learning either way. I'm tired of good emails going into my Spam Folder. I'm tired of my Inbox getting too much Spam and I'm tired of your system not learning either way.
