Speeding up renedering of images

Hi

I've managed to get uploaded jpegs to appear as thumbnails in my list view - thanks for the forum tips to get this done...BUT

Even TINY 100px wide thumbnails take forever to load in, and I plan to have a lot of them in a list.

I presume there is a way to speed this up a bit?
