Starting VO on Debian 3.1

I've done a basic installation of Debian 3.1 on my server. I've then installed VO on that machine (in console mode). Everything seems to install just fine, but i can't seem to get it working. It says: unable to start MySql server.... Could you tell what the proper installation procedure is to get it working.......
