Storing Emails Permanently

I'm looking to upgrade to Zoho Mail and read a response that if a contact email address changes we would lose all emails addressed to that client account? I'm in an industry that consolidates frequently and can not have emails disappear if X buys Y and its now customer@Y.com instead of X.com.

Did I misunderstand? Does Zoho mail STORE the email or just link it?
