Shouldn't a lead stay as a lead until a Deal is won/lost and then convert to a Account/Contact. I'm sure that's how it is done in other CRM's. That way for the sales pipeline you could have deals that relate to leads and deals that relate to clients (upselling or reselling). From what I can see, as soon as there is interest in a service/product, you hit convert. Now they are an Account/Contact and will need tagging to show that they are not yet a customer. In the pipeline for the dashboard how can you then distinguish between the two. I can understand that you can see all your deals and that's great for sales, but how do you monitor your conversion of leads to customers which can also be a critical measure for sales. It seems like you'd have to do a lot of customisation for something that should be an inbuilt feature.
