"I'm half-way through the sprint, how can I predict the end date of my sprint?" - The frequently asked question by the teams that are new to agile. Well, this post will walk you through the basic agile metrics and how Zoho Sprints helps you track the sprint progress.
Your team has moved the prioritized work items from the project backlog to the sprint and the sprint has started. What's next? It's time to track its progress on a daily basis.
- You can track the Ideal, Actual, and Predicted progress of the sprints using the Burndown and Burnup charts.
What does a Burndown chart denote?
Burndown chart represents the pending estimation points or count of work items on a daily basis. Using this chart, you can track the number of work items or points pending in the sprint. Learn more.
What does a Burnup chart denote?
Burnup chart is the reverse of your burndown chart. It represents the completed estimation points or the number of work items completed on a daily basis. Learn more.
Business scenario
Let's take a business scenario, where Helen has started the sprint 'Payments' and she has set the start and end dates.
- The team has started the sprint on July 12th and has set the end date as July 26th. This is denoted using the Ideal Line.
- But, the team didn't complete the sprint on the estimated end date. The Actual Line represents its progress till date.
- Based on the actual progress, the chart predict the end date of the sprint using the Predicted Line. Based on the current progress, the sprint is expected to end on November 21st.
In this case, the team can move the least prioritized work items to the backlog and can take it up in the next sprint. They can conduct a sprint review meeting and find ways to complete the sprint in an earlier date.
