Training videos are terrible...
Before I start, let me preface this by saying I am very impressed with the depth and the relative intuitiveness of the Creator app. It is by far one of the best web-apps I have seen to date. It almost seems as if the possibilities are endless, and I was able to pick up the basics of creating applications in minutes.
However, my intended use for the Creator app may extend beyond the standard user. Unlike most who may be creating simple web submission forms, I am trying to create a tracking database for projects that come in. I have sales people that would have to enter in initial project details, project managers that would have to fine tune it, and billing personnel that will need to reference this data.
The best part is, I can embed all the applications onto a webpage, and create simple forms for my sales and billing departments. The learning curve would be virtually nonexistent for them.
That said I will eventually need to learn the scripting language in order to fully utilize the more advanced functionality being offered. I have no problem sitting down with a book, but I guess I was spoiled by how easy everything was. I saw the links for the videos and figured I was home free.
Much to my utter disappointment, I found the the short 8 minute video on how to get started with the deluge scripting language absolutely terrible. For starters, I can only understand every other word the narrator is saying. He is speaking so fast with such a thick accent listening to him is unbelievably painful.
Furthermore, the speed at which the video moves is mind boggling. How is anyone supposed to keep up with this?
I understand the need for keeping bandwidth down, and not making things too complicated. But how about a series of videos, such as beginner scripting, intermediate scripting, etc. etc.
For now I guess I'll just be patient and fumble my way through.
But, just a suggestion from a lowly geek. If you are looking for market share without actually doing any marketing (which is what I'm guessing the strategy is considering mostly everything on Zoho is free), then make it a little easier on us early adopters by making better videos.
