UI enhancements in Gantt charts

UI enhancements in Gantt charts

We recently launched a bunch of  new features in Projects. Our Gantt charts were revamped to accommodate the most awaited feature -  four types of task dependency .

Here is a brief summary of the enhanced features supported by Gantt charts that will come in handy while working with task dependencies:

Drag a line to set dependency. It's that simple.
Link tasks using all the four types of dependencies. Drag a line from the predecessor task to the successor task in the Gantt chart to  create a new dependency . You can also use the ‘Jump to task bar’ icon to add dependencies.

New column in the Gantt view - 'Unscheduled Tasks'
Even before you schedule your tasks, we let you connect them to plan a workflow. The visual Gantt representation of tasks under the 'Unscheduled tasks' column helps you decide the time period of the entire project.

Lead time and Lag time
Lag is the time gap between the predecessor and successor tasks. Lead is the time gap by which the successor task is ahead of its predecessor. Simply put, a negative lag is called lead time.  Set lag or lead  time between tasks to manage your schedule more effectively.

Reordering tasks and subtasks
The milestone Gantt view provides you a list of milestones, task lists and tasks available in your project. You can choose to rearrange the order of tasks using the ‘reorder’ button. You can also prune down tasks into subtasks from the Gantt view. Drag and drop a task on another task to make it a subtask.

Task details pop-up
Every task has a set of key details like task owner, task schedule, preceding tasks, succeeding tasks, and so on. Clicking the Gantt bar of a task reveals a pop-up holding such task details. You can also get a detailed report of the tasks by clicking the specific task name.

Unlinking dependencies
Disconnect the tasks when they no longer depend on one another with the ‘unlink’ icon.

'ALT' key as a shortcut
Cut the usual long haul and substitute them with shortcuts. While creating dependencies, hold the ‘ALT’ key as you drag a line from the predecessor to the successor task. This action lets you select the dependency type and set the time lag as well.

Task dependency settings
We provide  additional settings to manage the shift in successor task every time the associated predecessor task is moved. Toggle the switch to enable or disable the setting.

E-mail notification settings for task dependencies
We help you stay on track with timely notifications. Turn on your e-mail notification settings to receive e-mails every time a predecessor task associated to you is completed.
  • Click the setup icon in the upper-right corner of the top band.
  • Navigate to the Personal Preferences section, click Notifications, and click E-mail.
  • Toggle the switch next to Predecessor task upon completion under the Task notifications section to receive e-mails for this category.
