Unable to send or receive mail via Apple Mail

I've been unable to send or receive mail for the last 3 hours using Apple Mail - getting constant time out message.  Any problems known about?

Why are there so regularly problems using Zoho with an email client?  it's only about a month since the last problem with receiving via IMAP
