Upcoming updates - October-November, 2020

Hello App Creators,

We'll be rolling out the following updates in the next 4-5 weeks:
  • Support for encrypting IP addresses
  • Applying permissions while printing and exporting
  • Using pixels to specify font size in pages
  • Connections for panels and Deluge integration tasks
  • Reference-listing popup while deleting connections
  • Applying an application's date and time formats to email attachments

Status of the updates from our previous posts:
  • File preview in reports will be rolled out in 1-2 weeks
  • Redirecting applications to the new domain creatorapp.zoho.com in 1-3 weeks
  • Link names for name and address subfields in 2-3 weeks
  • PDF improvements relating to header and footer in the next few months

Support for encrypting IP addresses

Applicable to : All

Since the end user's IP address is also their personal data, we'll be allowing you to apply encryption at rest (EAR) for the Added User IP Address and Modified User IP Address fields.

Applying permissions while printing and exporting

Applicable to : All

Currently the Print option in reports is available by default for all users. We'll be updating this so that end users will see the Print button only when they're permitted to Export data from that report. ( This particular update is specific to Creator 5 )  Applies to all Creator accounts

We'll also be applying the field-level permissions when record templates and print templates are used to print or export individual records. This will ensure that the related file, document, or email attachment contains only those fields that the user has permission for. Depending on how the record template or print template is designed, the end user will either see nothing or just see the field label upon exporting or printing the record. For example:

  • No information will appear when you've added the fields without their labels, and when you've inserted the fields inside elements like Heading and Paragraph :

  • Just the field labels will appear when you've configured them to display their label on the left:

Using pixels to specify the text and icon size in pages

Applicable to : Creator 5

Currently the text and icon size on your pages are set using a scale of 1-8. To give you more control over your page's appearance, we've decided to deprecate this scale and allow you to set the size in pixels (px).

Please note that this update won't affect the text and icon size in your ZML snippets. Though they'll continue to work as is, we recommend that you later update the value of the size attributes in them.

Connections for panels and Deluge integration tasks

Applicable to : Creator 5

As you may be aware, Zoho services are updating their authentication mechanism to OAuth. As part of this, we'll shortly do the following:
  • Mandate a connection for the panels that show values from other Zoho services (currently Zoho Sheet and Zoho Projects). This only concerns the panels that you'll add after this update is rolled out; the existing panels will continue to work as is.
  • Introduce the optional connection parameter for all the Deluge integration tasks.
We thus recommend that you check your existing Deluge integration tasks and the panels in your pages, and start using connections wherever available. Refer to this page to learn how to configure a Zoho OAuth connection for your Creator account.

Reference-listing popup while deleting connections

Applicable to : Creator 5

We'll be ensuring that you can delete connections only when they're not used in any of your applications. Similar to what you see while deleting fields, forms, reports, etc., you'll see the interactive pop-up that lists the places where the connection in question is used. For example:

Applying an application's date and time formats to email attachments

Applicable to : All

With this update, your application's date and time formats will be applied to the date and time values included in email attachments.
