Updating contacts via CSV roundtrip and matching with Contact Id
Hi Guys,
I've been trying to tidy up our contacts in Zoho. I hoped that if I exported contacts to CSV with the Contact Id, I'd be able to edit those contacts in Excel and re-import them using the Contact Id to match the right Zoho contacts when I re-import.
It seems that Zoho actually matches to the Last Name during the CSV import (this is the only mandated import field) and not even to the email address (which is ambiguous for duplicate contacts with the same email address).
This seem illogical. Surely the Contact Id is the best key to update with if you have it. Then the user can bulk edit in Excel and maybe mark the duplicates he want to delete before re-importing and updating his contact and their fields in Zoho with the CSV re-import.
Ideally ZOHO would match in the following priority order 1) Contact Id, 2) the Email 3) on the Full Name. The same would apply to your other objects, Accounts, Opportunities etc...
Have I missed something? Currently the Contact Id seems irrelevant which is a shame. Is their a good workaround or could this be improved?
